IN MEMORIAM

On the 8th of February 2011 I had to say goodbye to George, my pet bird. Well technically my sisters' pet bird. He was a green grass parakeet, very small and easy to keep. We never bought him at a pet store or breeder, one day he was just there. I was preparing dinner in the kitchen with the window open because there was a lot of steam. Suddenly something flew in and scared the living hell out of me. That was George, he just decided to pay us a visit. Since he seemed pretty tame we decided to keep him and take care of him. With a little protest on my side he was placed in a cage with my own pet grass parakeet Sparky. They fought a bit in the beginning but after that Sparky and George found peace with each other. He had been living with us ever since. Since I'm the only one who ever really cares for the pets in this house I had daily contact with him.
I will really miss him. He was not tame enough to pet or hold decently but his behaviour was absolutely fun to watch. He always came to check out who was talking to him and proceeded to cheerfully chirp along. Every morning he'd chirp me straight out of bed in time for his feeding. He was a little upset after his cagemate died and never completely went back to his old self but he still 'talked' to me and complained when needed. He really was a great pet.
I do believe animals should be free but since most animals born in captivity won't survive in the wild it's better to take care of them yourself. I think I had way less pets than the average person though. My parents had never been very fond of animals (or humans for that matter) so when I did get a pet it was usually to spite the other partner.
My first pet was Tommy, a white parakeet named after the white Power Ranger. I got him because my parents were splitting up and they wanted to distract me. He could sing the most beautiful songs. Second would be my tame rat. He was named Robbe by my father and I got him because my mother absolutely hates rodents. I did like him a lot though since unlike my first pet I could hold, hug and take walks with him. He usually spent every free moment with me and was my best friend. I believe his colouring was called a Russian Blue Blazed. He was a dark blue with wite marks. He was the most beautiful rat in the whole wide world for me. My mother disagreed however and made me wash thoroughly every time I returned to her custody. My latest pet was Sparky, a blue grass parakeet and George's cage partner. He was very tame and could be held and played with. He often read books with me and learned to mimic tunes I whistled. He was very handsome and had a beautiful shiny feather coat. I really miss them a lot.
I just wanted to write this down to make sure I'd never forget them and that so they'd know they are missed and loved. I hope they have plenty of room to play wherever they are now.
